We’re excited to have you become part of the Getty team. You’re joining a diverse group of individuals who are all dedicated to a common goal ― the presentation, conservation, and interpretation of the world’s artistic legacy.

1. Staff Handbook

Please review the policies, procedures and benefits described in the Employee Staff Handbook. You will be given an opportunity to ask questions about the policies and be asked to affirm that you have received, read and understand the policies contained in the Handbook.

2. Arriving on Your First Day and General Parking and Shuttle Information

New employees will be sent a parking reservation number the week prior to their start date. On your first day, provide the security guard at the front gate with your parking reservation number.

You should park in the lower main parking structure, located at: 1200 Getty Center Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90049. Once you park, take the elevator to the T1 level where the Shuttle pick-up area is located (just opposite the Tram, past the Stark Sculpture Garden). Please note that on Mondays, staff may park on levels P1 or lower. Tuesdays through Fridays, staff should park on levels P4 or lower.

When you exit the Shuttle Bus, please make your way to Central Security and notify the Security Officer at the check-in desk that you are a new employee who will be participating in New Employee Orientation. You will then be met and escorted to New Employee Orientation.

Please allow yourself enough time for parking and to ascend the hill after you arrive at the Getty Center (approximately 10‒15 minutes).

After you receive your employee ID Badge on your first day, you will use your ID Badge to access the parking garage and raise the arms of the barrier gates, until you get the hang tag for your car (which will be given to you within the first week of employment).

3. First Day Reminders

It is important that new employees remember to bring the following items on their first day:

  • New Hire Packet paperwork;
    • The Federal W-4 withholding form has changed. To be ready to complete it on your first day, we suggest you visit the IRS FAQs on the 2020 Form W-4 for more information.
  • Completed page 1 of your Form I-9, and Documentation that verifies your identity and employment authorization — please see page 3 of the Form I-9 for specific examples;
  • Your car information (license plate, model, make, year, and color), if applicable; and
  • A voided check, if you would like to have your paycheck direct deposited.

4. New Employee Orientation (NEO)

As a new employee you will be scheduled to participate in our NEO over your first two days of employment. This will include an introduction to the Getty, its mission, and the work of the four program areas, as well as essential information about employee benefits, safety and security, technology, etc. It is an important part to the start of your relationship with the Getty as a new employee. We look forward to seeing you!

5. Benefit Summary and Elections

Most positions at the Getty are eligible for benefits, effective on your first day of employment. As a new employee, you will need to make those benefit elections within the first 31 days of your employment. To help you decide which benefits may be right for you, please review the Getty Benefits Overview. For more detailed information concerning the benefit plans, employee cost, etc. visit the Medical page.

When you make your benefits elections, you will do so through Employee Self Service (ESS), see detailed instructions. You may access ESS any time after your employment begins and will have a unique opportunity to complete your benefits enrollment with the assistance of HR staff, during your second week of employment.
