Overview
It’s important to plan for your family’s financial security in case the unexpected happens. That’s why the Getty provides basic life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance for employees — at no cost to you.
During Open Enrollment and as a new hire, you also have the option of buying supplemental/optional life and AD&D insurance for yourself and your family through easy payroll deductions.
In addition, you have the protection of Getty-paid business travel accident insurance.
Group Life and AD&D Insurance
What is AD&D insurance?
Should you lose your life, sight, hearing, speech, or use of your limb(s) in an accident, AD&D insurance provides additional benefits to help keep your family financially secure. AD&D benefits are paid as a percentage of your coverage amount — from 50% to 100% — depending on the type of loss.
Voluntary Life and AD&D Insurance
You can purchase additional life and AD&D insurance for yourself, as well as coverage for your spouse/domestic partner, and your child(ren). You pay the full cost of any voluntary life and AD&D insurance coverage.
You can enroll in Voluntary Life Insurance up to the following coverage amounts; however, a portion of the coverage amount may be subject to medical underwriting:
Employee: | $300,000 or 5x annual salary, whichever is less. |
---|---|
Spouse/Domestic Partner: | $100,000 or 50% of employee’s Getty-provided life coverage, whichever is less. |
Child(ren): | $10,000 |
If you enroll within 31 days from your date of hire, a Statement of Health is not required. You can purchase coverage up to the following guaranteed issue amounts:
Employee: | $300,000 or 3x annual salary, whichever is less. |
---|---|
Spouse/Domestic Partner: | $25,000 or 50% of employee’s Getty-provided life coverage, whichever is less. |
Child(ren): | $10,000 |
Voluntary AD&D Insurance
- If you die, the benefit amount is paid in increments of $25,000 with a maximum benefit of the lesser of 10x your salary or $500,000.
- If you are injured, a portion of the benefit is paid, depending upon the injury.
- Coverages for spouse and/or child(ren) are percentages of the amount you have elected.
- Spouse only: 50%
- Spouse and Child(ren): Spouse: 40%, and Each Child: 10%
- Child Only: 15%
Dependents are only eligible for coverage if the employee is covered.
Evidence of insurability
Life insurance over a certain amount may require evidence of insurability (EOI). After electing coverage, you will receive more information if EOI is required.
Have you named a beneficiary?
It’s important to designate a beneficiary to receive the benefit paid by a life insurance policy. As personal circumstances change, be sure to keep that information up to date. Go to the Getty’s Employee Self Service (ESS) to update or change a beneficiary.
Business Travel Accident Insurance
Business Travel Accident Insurance (BTA) covers risks while you are traveling on business for the Getty and is provided at no cost to you. BTA pays a benefit for covered accidents that might result in serious injury or loss of life while you are traveling on business for the Getty.
For loss of life, the BTA benefit will be paid in addition to any other life insurance that is in effect at the time of the covered accident. Other types of injuries which may be covered include loss of speech, sight or hearing, paralysis and other losses.
Coverage is automatic — you do not need to enroll — and there is no cost to you.
